Support innovation
Throughout the University of Oregon faculty and students are using a wide range of information technology resources to enhance their teaching, learning, and research work. The goal of the Innovative Technology Fund is to purchase new and exciting technology resources that will be made available to our faculty and students. A few exmples of our current environment include
Smart Boards
Making use of "Smart Boards," students work in teams with Internet resources or local data. The Smart Boards allow students to interact with the computer at the board as well as mark up images or data and save it or post it to a Web site for access or further analysis.
Plasma Displays
Large plasma displays in the collaboration lab allow students to develop and practice before giving presentations in class. With more group assignments and student presentations these resources are in heavy use.
Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing has been used at the university for many years, but providing facilities for student use is relatively new. Making use of these resources in the collaborative center allow students to interact with student groups at other universities, including internationally.
Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
Specialized technology like Global Positioning Systems (GPS) allow faculty and students to capture research data, transfer data to Geographic Information Systems, and display the data in a variety of graphic ways. These have a variety of uses throughout the university.
