These directions are for Thunderbird version 1.5 and
later.
Windows users: You can skip the following steps
by using our UOThunderbird.EXE installer.
This program will install and configure Thunderbird to be use with the UOregon
system.
If Thunderbird does not automatically start the account creation wizard, from
the Tools menu select Account Settings..., then click the Add Account...
button in the lower left.
- Click the Next > button
- Enter your name and your email address, and click the Next > button
- Click the IMAP button
- In the Incoming Server box enter "imap.uoregon.edu"
- In the Outgoing Server box enter "smtp.uoregon.edu". (Note: this option
will not appear if an outgoing mail server has already been entered.)
- Click the Next > button
- Double-check the incoming and outgoing User Names. Both should be set
to your Duck ID username.
- Click the Next > button
- In the Account Name box enter something to identify that email account,
like UOregon
- Click the Next > button
- Double-check the information and click the Finish button
Thunderbird will now try to contact our mail server. This attempt will fail;
click the OK button and proceed with the next set of directions, below.
Configuring Thunderbirg for IMAP mode
- From the Tools menu select Account Settings...
- In the list on the left, click Server Settings
- In the Server Settings section on the right, click the "Use secure connection
(SSL)" check box
- Click the Advanced... button
- Click the OK button
- Click the next OK button
- Continue with the next set of directions, below
Configuring Thunderbird for SMTP Authentication
- From the Tools menu select Account Settings...
- In the list on the left, click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
- Change the Port number to 587
- Click the "Use name and password" check box (if not already checked)
- In the User Name box enter your Duck ID username
- Under "Use Secure Connection" click the TLS button
- Click the OK button
