To configure your computer to dial in to the University of Oregon modem pool follow these steps:

Note: If Windows prompts you to restart your computer, refuse that request. Once these steps are complete restart your computer if prompted. You may be required to have the Windows XP CD-ROM on hand to complete the tasks outlined here.

1. Click the Start button
   
2. Click Settings then Control Panel
   
   
3. Click Network Connections
   
   
4. Click Create a new connection and click the Next > button
   
   
5. Click Connect to the Internet and click the Next > button
   
6. Select Set up my connection manually and click the Next > button
   
7. Select Connect using a dial-up modem and click the Next > button
   
8. Type U. Oregon and click the Next > button
9. university's modem phone number, 225-2200, and click the Next > button
10. Enter the following information in the window that appears (below):
    • In the User name box enter your UO email address
    • In the Password box enter your password
    • In the Confirm Password box enter enter your password again
    • Click the Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection check box

1. Click the Next > button
2. Click the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop check box
3. Click the Finish button
   

To connect in the future:

1. Open the shortcut you created on your desktop in step 2, above
2. Click the Dial button
