Production Information
MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numerical computation. Using MATLAB, you can solve technical computing problems faster than with traditional programming languages, such as C, C++, and Fortran.
You can use MATLAB in a wide range of applications, including signal and image processing, communications, control design, test and measurement, financial modeling and analysis, and computational biology. Add-on toolboxes (collections of special-purpose MATLAB functions, available separately) extend the MATLAB environment to solve particular classes of problems in these application areas.
MATLAB provides a number of features for documenting and sharing your work. You can integrate your MATLAB code with other languages and applications, and distribute your MATLAB algorithms and applications.

Obtaining Software
MATLAB renews annually in October. For information on how to download MATLAB and install the software on your computer you will need the MATLAB Activation Instructions and the Activation Key which can be obtained under "Software Available for Download". You will only be able to see the files containing the activation key and instructions if you are university faculty, staff, or GTF. Students who would like to install MATLAB on their personal computers may purchase copies from Mathworks at a student rate.
Notes:
Subscribers to MathWorks Software Maintenance Service can download product updates. Visit the License Center to download products, activate software, and manage your license and user information. Currently R200b prerelease is now available for download.
Licensing and Restrictions
- MATLAB is a campus wide site license and can be used by U of O employees (faculty, academic staff and GTFs) performing software administration, teaching and noncommercial, academic research.
- Faculty, GTFs and academic staff may install and use the programs on their personally owned computers, on campus, off campus and via remote access.
- Enrolled students may also use MATLAB programs in on-campus facilities.
- Students are expressly prohibited from installing and executing the Programs on their personally owned computers.
