Configuring iOS Mail

This page explains how to configure the iOS Mail application to work with the University of Oregon e-mail servers. These directions work for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Step-by-Step Directions:

Webmail:

  1. Tap the Settings icon
    iOS settings icon
  2. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
  3. In the Accounts section, click "Add Account"
  4. Tap "Other"
  5. Tap "Add Mail Account"
  6. Enter your name, UO email address and Duck ID password (the same password you would use for Canvas or Webmail)
  7. Change the description if you wish
  8. Tap the "Next" button at the top right
  9. In the "Host Name" box enter "imap.uoregon.edu"
  10. In the "User Name" box enter your Duck ID
  11. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, in the "Host Name" box enter "smtp.uoregon.edu"
  12. In the "User Name" box enter your Duck ID
  13. In the "Password" box enter your Duck ID password
  14. If there are any buttons/options for SSL with IMAP or SMTP, then please make sure SSL is in the ON position
  15. Tap the "Next" button at the top right
  16. Mail will now verify your settings... please wait for it to finish.
  17. Tap the "Save" button at the top right.

Updating Your Password

The University of Oregon requires that everybody changes their password every 6 months. Once you change your password via duckid.uoregon.edu you must manually change the password in your iDevice. This method works for both iPads and iPhones.

  1. Tap the Settings icon
    iOS settings icon
  2. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
  3. Under "IMAP," tap on your University of Oregon email account.
  4. Under "Incoming Mail Server," enter your updated password.
  5. Under "Outgoing Mail Server," tap on smtp.uoregon.edu.
  6. Under "Primary Server," tap on smtp.uoregon.edu.
  7. Under "Outgoing Mail Server," tap on password and enter your updated password in the password field.
  8. Tap "Done" in the upper right-hand corner.

You may wish to adjust other related preferences in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" to best fit your needs.

Exchange:

  1. Tap the Settings icon
  2. Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
  3. In the Accounts section, click "Add Account"
  4. Tap "Exchange"
  5. Enter your UO email address and Duck ID password (the same password you would use for Canvas or Webmail)
  6. Change the description if you wish
  7. Under Server enter "sync.uoregon.edu"
  8. Under Domain enter "ad.uoregon.edu"
  9. Under Username enter your DuckID (First part of your Uoregon email address)
  10. Under Password enter your DuckID Password (the same password you would use for Canvas or Webmail)
  11. Make sure Use SSL is On
  12. Make sure S/MIME is Off
