Quick-start checklist

Your UO login information

At UO, you have two sets of login information: your UO ID number and PAC, and your Duck ID and password.

Duck ID & password

UO ID number & PAC

  • Duck ID: The part of your email address to the left of the @ sign
  • Example: bbogus (from
  • Password: At least 8 characters
  • Used for: Email, Canvas, WiFi, VPN, LibrarySearch
  • UO ID number: Begins with “95” and is exactly nine digits long
  • Example: 95#######
  • Used for: DuckWeb (view earnings statements and leave balances, pay bills, register for classes)

Get stuff

  • Equipment Checkout
    • Students and faculty can check out audio, video, and projection equipment for class assignments for free through the UO Libraries Center for Media & Educational Technology (CMET).
  • Free Websites and Blogs
    • Create a blog, a portfolio for your scholarly or creative work, or a website for a department, project, event, or collaborative group. This service runs on WordPress, which means you don't need to know HTML or CSS to get going. Pick a theme and start writing!

  • Software
    • Get free software for your classes or research from the IT website's Software Center. Examples include Microsoft Office, McAfee VirusScan, Qualtrics survey software, Mathematica, MATLAB, SAS, and SPSS.

The Microsoft Office suite is available at no cost to all UO employees and students via Office 365!
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more!
You can:
  • Download apps to install on your computer
  • Use online versions of the apps in your browser
  • Install apps on your phone, tablet, or personal laptop — up to 15 installations total!
To start using Office 365:

  • Ethernet and Wireless Internet connections
  • Email
    • UO provides all faculty, staff, and students with a unique "" email address. The University will send official messages to this email address. You can read and send email in a variety of ways: use a web browser on your laptop or desktop or an email app on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

  • Canvas, UO's learning management system (LMS)
    • Students and faculty use Canvas for course syllabi, readings, discussions, assignments, quizzes, exams, and grade information.
  • Computer Labs
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN)
    • Use VPN when you aren't on the Eugene campus and need to access an online 
    • resource that is restricted to on-campus access, such as library databases.
  • Emergency Text Notification

  • Service Status: Is something down?
    • Visit the Status website to check if an online service, such as email or wireless, has stopped working or is running slowly.
  • Tech Support
    • As an employee, when you need technology help, please start with the local IT support staff in your department, school, or college.
    • If you don't have any local IT support staff, or if they're unable to solve your problem, please contact the Information Services Technology Service Desk.
