Problems getting the DWHS Bi/Query installation to work?

One of the three components necessary for running the warehouse may not be installed (i.e. BI Query 10, Oracle 11g Client, or IPSec VPN.) or your VPN is not connected.  Most problems have to do with Windows 7 and/or 64 bit machines.

Please read Data Warehouse Installation  (https://it.uoregon.edu/node/751) for detailed information on installing all three of these products.

If you need to re-install, do Oracle, then VPN and lastly, Bi-Query, just like they are listed on the web page.

Some help in determining if you have BI Query and Oracle 11g installed correctly:

Windows Start Menu and run the following program -> All Programs -> OpenText -> Livelink ECM Business Intelligence -> BI Query -> BI Configuration Manager.  The version listed should read 10.0.0.519.

The surest way to verify that the Oracle 11g Client is installed correctly, is the following:

1) From the Windows Start Menu run the following program -> All Programs -> Oracle - Ora11gUOISHome -> Oracle Installation Products -> UniversalInstaller *Important* Run this program as administrator if you are on a Vista or Windows 7 computer, by right clicking on it and chosing 'Run as Administrator'.

2) When the Welcome Screen comes up, click on 'Installed Products'. Verify that the list contains an entry for Ora11gUOISHome.  After viewing the installed products, click on 'Cancel' to exit out of the Universal Installer.

3) It is also vital that you have the correct tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files installed as well.  To confirm this, navigate to the following directory:

c:\oracle_uois\oracle_11g_client\network\admin

Using wordpad, (not notepad), open the tnsnames.ora file and verify that

the header reads:

################
# Filename......: tnsnames.ora for use with Oracle 11g or higher
# Date..........: 14-MAY-2012
################

Additionally, open the sqlnet.ora file in the same directory, and verify that the header reads:

###################################
#  SQLNET.ORA
#  University of Oregon ASO
#  11-MAR-2010

If all these items check out, then the Oracle 11g Client should be installed correctly on your machine.

VPN

You will also need the Cisco AnyConnect VPN to access the Data Warehouse; it can be found here: AnyConnect VPN for UO Databases (DWHS, R25).

If you need help with VPN, call the Technology Servce Desk (541) 346-4357 or check out this web page:  https://it.uoregon.edu/help/getconnected/vpn/

We do not support Windows 7 with Bi-Query, but I can give you names of people who have gotten it working.
