How to Remove the 'Mac Protector' Virus

Viruses and malware have made their way to ordinary Mac users. The main face of this new threat to Macs is the Mac Protector virus. Luckily, it is a very easy virus to remove.  

The Symptoms:

This virus usually displays as a fake security center window. It also creates message boxes that appear in the top right corner that "warn" you that critical system parts are infected or begining to fail. This virus also periodically creates mass pop-ups appear on your desktop.

Removal Process:

  1. Open the Finder
  2. Open the Applications folder then open the Utilities folder
  3. Open the Activity Moniter
  4. Find the Mac Protector Process, click on it then click on Quit Process
  5. Find the Mac Protector icon in the Applications folder
  6. Drag it to the Trash
  7. Select Finder in the top left corner, then select Secure Empty Trash
