How to Set Up UO Printing's B&W and Color Printers

UO Printing and Mailing Services offers a quick, digital print service called QuickCopy. To use QuickCopy, you need to set up your computer to print to the correct print queues.

QuickCopy has two printers, QCBW (black and white) and QCCOLOR (color). Both run on a server called QCSERVER. The QCSERVER is also a file server on which printing customers can drop print jobs for Printing.

To set up the printers, follow these directions:

Mac OS X

  1. Install printer drivers from QC server
    1. On the top toolbar, select Go
    2. Type qcserver.uoregon.edu into the address field, then click Connect
    3. Choose Guest, then access Shared
    4. Choose Printer Installs, then Mac Printer descriptions
    5. Install B/W ppd 1050:
      1. Double-click on the B/W ppd 1050 folder
      2. Double-click on KONICAMINOLTA_1050_103.pkg
      3. Click Continue, Continue, Continue, Continue, Agree, Continue, Install, Close
    6. Install color ppd
      1. Double-click on the color ppd folder, then double-click on 700 Drivers
      2. Double-click on 700_UBPD_7.1.1-447.dmg, then double-click on Xerox 24X_25X_260_700 CD.  Click Continue, Continue, Continue, Agree, Continue, Install.  This will take you to a Select Printer page.  Don't select a printer, simply press Continue, and then Continue again to skip the printer selection.  Press Close.
  2. Add printers
    1. Add Black and White Print Queue
      1. Select the Apple icon from the top toolbar.  Click System Preferences...
      2. Select Print & Fax.  Click the + button to add a new printer.
      3. Select IP Printer tab
      4. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
      5. Address: quickcopy.uoregon.edu
      6. Queue: qcbw
      7. Name:  qcbw
      8. Print Using: KONICA MINOLTA.  This will generate a drop-down menu.  Select KONICA MINOLTA 1050 PS(P)
      9. Click Add
    2. Add Color Print Queue
      1. From the Print & Fax tab of System Preferences, click the + button to add a new printer.
      2. Select IP Printer tab
      3. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
      4. Address: quickcopy.uoregon.edu
      5. Queue: qccolor
      6. Name:  qccolor
      7. Print Using: Xerox.  This will generate a drop-down menu.  Select Xerox 700 Digital Color Press (07.00.00) v3017.102
      8. Click Add

Windows

Black and White Printer

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type \\qcserver\qcbw
  3. A window should appear on your screen. It will show the jobs currently waiting to be printed. You're done.

Color Printer

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type \\qcserver\qccolor
  3. A window should appear on your screen. It will show the jobs currently waiting to be printed. You're done.

Windows 7 32bit

  1. Go to Control Panel > Add Printer
  2. Choose Add Local Printer
  3. Create a new port
  4. Select local port from the dropdown box
  5. A box will pop up, enter \\qcserver\qcbw
  6. You can now choose your driver to install...click have disk
    1. Download the appropriate vista32bit PCL driver from here: http://onyxftp.mykonicaminolta.com/DownloadFile/Download.ashx?fileid=161...
    2. Extract, and then from the add printer dialog, navigate to the location of your driver INF file.
  7. Now just click through, renaming to QCBW, if desired, and then you are done.

Accessing the QCServer Shared folder

  1. Click Start then Run
  2. Type \\qcserver\shared

Connecting to QCServer

To connect to the QCSERVER file server at Printing and Mailing, follow these steps:
  1. In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Connect to server.
  2. In the box that appears, delete anything that is in the Address box and type qcserver.uoregon.edu, click the Guest button, then click Connect.
  3. Choose the Shared folder, then click OK. The folder should appear on your desktop.
  4. Open the Drop Box Folder.
  5. Inside the Drop Box Folder, make a folder with your name on it, and drop your files into that folder.
