A clean install of an operating system is just like a normal installation except it installs on a completely blank hard drive. If you do a clean install on a drive that has been previously used, all of the files on that drive will be erased. Only do a clean install if you DON'T WANT any of the files on the hard drive.

To do a clean install of Mac OS X 10.6, follow the instructions on macs.about.com.
