If you have received the following error while trying to install software from the IT website's Software Center, follow the instructions listed below.

  • Error: "<filename>.pkg is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image"

The issue is specific to Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). These versions of OS X introduced Gatekeeper, a security feature to help prevent malware infections. To install certain packages, such as software located in the Software Center, you will need to turn off Gatekeeper.

To change these settings, see Gatekeeper Security Settings in OS X.

Once you've made this change, you can install software, then turn Gatekeeper back on if desired.
