Configuring Thunderbird for Exchange

These directions step you through setting up Thunderbird to use Microsoft Exchange. To determine if you are using Exchange for email, see How do I know if my email uses Exchange or IMAP?

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. From the menu bar, click on Tools
  3. Select Account Settings
  4. From the Account Actions drop-down menu, select Add Mail Account
  5. Enter your name
  6. Enter your UO email address
  7. Enter your UO password
  8. Click Continue
  9. IMMEDIATELY, click on the Manual Config button to stop the auto configuration
  10. For the incoming settings, enter the following settings:
    1. Ensure IMAP is selected from the drop-down menu
    2. Incoming Server hostname: exchange.uoregon.edu
    3. Port: 993
    4. SSL: SSL/TLS
    5. Authentication: Normal Password
  11. For the outgoing settings, enter the following settings:
    1. Outgoing Server hostname: exchange.uoregon.edu
    2. Port: 587
    3. SSL: STARTTLS
    4. Authentication: Normal Password
  12. Click Done
