Configuring a Modem (dial-up) Connection for Windows

Please note: The university has discontinued its modem (dial-up) internet service as of February 12, 2015.

 

To Connect to UOnet with a modem and Windows Vista:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
  2. Click Set up a connection or network then Set up a dial-up connection , click Next Connect to a network window
  3. A list of modems will appear. Select your modem and click the Next button.
  4. Enter the following information in the window that appears (below):
    • Enter the modem pool phone number, 541-225-2200, in the Dial-up phone number box
    • Type your UOregon email address in the User name box
    • Type your UOregon email password in the Password box
    • Enter some name, such as UOregon, in the Connection name box

Click the Connect button to connect to our modem pool.

To connect in the future:

  1. Click the Start menu
  2. Click Connect To
  3. Select the modem connection you just created and click the Connect button

To Connect to UOnet with a modem and Windows XP:

  1. Go To Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections
  2. Click Create a new connection and click the Next > button
  3. Click Connect to the Internet and click the Next > button
  4. Select Set up my connection manually and click the Next > button
  5. Select Connect using a dial-up modem and click the Next > button
  6. Type U. Oregon and click the Next > button
  7. university's modem phone number, 225-2200, and click the Next > button
  8. Enter the following information in the window that appears (below) and then click the Next > button:
    • In the User name box enter your UO email address
    • In the Password box enter your password
    • In the Confirm Password box enter enter your password again
    • Click the Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection check box
  9. Click the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop check box and then click Finish

To connect in the future:

  1. Open the shortcut you created on your desktop in step 9, above
  2. Click the Dial button
