The New Media Consortium, in conjunction with EDUCAUSE, have released the 2014 Horizon Project report for Higher Education.

Six key trends, six significant challenges, and six emerging technologies are identified across three adoption horizons over the next one to five years, giving campus leaders and practitioners a valuable guide for strategic technology planning.

For example, the report discusses how ubiquity of social media and the rise of data-driven learning and assessment have helped drive changes in higher education. It also covers signficant challenges to technology adoption, including low digital fluency for some faculty, a lack of rewards for teaching, and increased competition from new models of education.
