Information Services is now offering an unlimited number of free organization validation (OV) certificates for uoregon.edu hostnames.

Information Services is covering the cost of all certificates issued through this UO SSL Certificate Service as a benefit to you, your department, and the online security of the University of Oregon. In the past, Information Services offered certificates at cost through GlobalSign. Now, through a new arrangement with InCommon as part of UO's membership in Internet2, certificates will be unlimited and free.

This change will not affect any existing GlobalSign certificates currently in use. Those certificates will continue to be valid until they expire. Certificate renewals will be routed through InCommon as part of the re-designed UO SSL Certificate Service.

To request an OV SSL certificate, visit http://security.uoregon.edu/certs.

The turn-around time for issuing an OV SSL certificate is one to three business days. Some requests, such as adding a new domain, are more complicated and may require several work weeks to complete. Please consider this factor when determining your project timelines.

In the future, Information Services plans to offer extended validation (EV) SSL/TLS certificates, client certificates, and code-signing certificates.
