UO Blogs has an option for submitting blog posts using your email. The process involves using a plugin called Jetpack and then generating a unique email address that new post can be sent to.

Notes before getting started:

  • If your site uses the domain mapping plugin (i.e. you have a custom .uoregon.edu URL) and you would like to use this plugin, please contact the Technology Service Desk before activating the plugin.
  • You will need to a wordpress.com account to use this plugin.

Step-by-step directions:

  1. Log into your blog and locate the "My Sites" button in the very top left corner of the page.

  2. Mouse over your site's name and select "Dashboard".

  3. Click on the "Plugins" menu item on the left-hand column and locate a plugin called "Jetpack by WordPress.com". Press Activate.

  4. Next you need to connect your UO Blogs site with your wordpress.com account. Click on the "Connect to WordPress" option.

  5. Here you will have to enter your WordPress login credentials. (Note: You cannot use your DuckID for this. Only WordPress.com accounts will work.)

  6. Now activate "Post by Email".

  7. Mouse over the "Users" tab on the left and select "Your Profile".

  8. Click "Enable Post by Email". This will generate a unique email address that anyone can send emails to and have them posted on your blog. To avoid having unwanted posts added to your blog, keep this address private.

  9. You can now send emails (including images and formatting) to this address and they will be posted in a matter of minutes.

There are several shortcuts that can be added to emails to apply certain effects to your blog post. Adding [category x,y,z] to the bottom of the email assign a series of categories to your post (in this case x, y, and z). Using [tags x,y,z] works similarly, but with tags instead of categories. Posts can be delayed using [delay +1 hour] and comments can be disabled with [comments off].
