BI Query Installation - Data Warehouse (DWHS)

The BI Query software provides the interface for you to report on, retrieve, and manipulate data from the Data Warehouse.

You may need to log in to Active Directory during this installation:
During this installation you may be prompted to login onto Active Directory in order to access certain installation files.  When you are prompted to log in, enter your Duck ID prefixed with 'ad\', then enter your Duck ID password as you normally do, as shown here:

Step One: Download the BI Query Installer

Important Information
You will need to configure BI Query to find important files after you have run the installer. See the instructions below on how to configure BI Query after you have installed it.
  • Navigate to the following webpage, then download the BI*Query Installation by right clicking on it and choosing Save Link As..., or Save Target As... and saving it to your desktop:

    UO Data Warehouse Tools

Step Two: Run the BI Query Installer

  • After you have downloaded the program, double-click on it to run it.
  • Carefully follow the on screen instructions, making sure to select the appropriate data model--"FIS" for Finance, "HRIS" for Human Resources, "SIS" for Student, or "FinAid" for Financial Aid--when prompted.

Step Three: BiQuery 10 Configuration Instructions

This step relies on having already installed AnyConnect VPN for UO Databases. See AnyConnect VPN for UO Databases (DWHS, R25) for software and installation instructions.

Important: To ensure that no one loses their custom queries and reports, the data models are still being stored in the older C:\GQL directory structure. Because of this, you will have to tell the new BiQuery 10 version where to find your DWHS.CON connection file and the data models themselves. Here is how:

  • First start up the VPN Client:
Click on the Start button on the Windows Taskbar. Click on | Programs | Cisco Systems VPN Client | VPN Client
  • Connect to the "UofO Database VPN" using your Duck ID username and password. This will allow you access to the Data Warehouse.
  • Start Open Text BI Query.
Click on the Start button on the Windows Taskbar. Click on | Programs | Open Text | Livelink ECM - Business Intellegence | BI Query | BI Query User.
  • After starting BI Query chose Local Data Model.

  • Browse to your Data Model which will be in one of the following locations:

    C:\GQL\FINAID\USER
    C:\GQL\FIS\USER
    C:\GQL\HRIS\USER
    C:\GQL\STUDENT\USER

  • You will probably receive the following error messages - Click OK:

  • To fix these errors proceed as follows:

From the Host menu chose Connections…

The following dialog will come up:

  • In the bottom of the dialog box chose the biq.ini radio button, and then using the […] button to its right, browse to your DWHS.CON directory:
    • If you only have one data model installed, then browse to its directory, which will be one of the following:
      C:\GQL\FINAID
      C:\GQL\FIS
      C:\GQL\HRIS
      C:\GQL\STUDENT
    • If you have more than one model installed then browse to C:\GQL
    • Click OK
  • After you have located and selected the DWHS.CON directory, but before leaving the Connections dialog, press the Edit button which will bring up the following dialog:

  • Type in your User Name in the User name field and then press Save.
  • Important: When exiting BI Query you will be prompted to save the datamodel.  Please save it when prompted, so that the configuration changes you just made will be saved. Some computers may need a reboot for these configuration changes to take effect.

This should complete your connection setup.  You should now be able to connect to the database using the Data Model of your choice.
