Production Information

*Important Note: MATLAB is now under new support management. Please contact CASIT for all MATLAB-related inquiries.

MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numerical computation. Using MATLAB, you can solve technical computing problems faster than with traditional programming languages, such as C, C++, and Fortran.

You can use MATLAB in a wide range of applications, including signal and image processing, communications, control design, test and measurement, financial modeling and analysis, and computational biology. Add-on toolboxes (collections of special-purpose MATLAB functions, available separately) extend the MATLAB environment to solve particular classes of problems in these application areas.

MATLAB provides a number of features for documenting and sharing your work. You can integrate your MATLAB code with other languages and applications, and distribute your MATLAB algorithms and applications.

Obtaining Software

*Important: Matlab has been renewed for the 2017/2018 school year and you will need to place new installation codes (available in the "Matlab Activations  Instructions" file below) into your software instance. The codes available are for the new R2017b release so you will need to update to this most current version.

MATLAB renews annually the first of October.  For information on how to download MATLAB and install the software on your computer you will need the MATLAB Activation Instructions and the Activation Key which can be obtained under "Software Available for Download".  You will only be able to see the files containing the activation key and instructions if you are university faculty, staff, GTFs, or students.  Students are now authorized to download MATLAB on their personal devices (see the "MATLAB Activation Inststructions" below and use the correct codes given for student use).

Notes:

Subscribers to MathWorks Software Maintenance Service can download product updates. Visit the License Center to download products, activate software, and manage your license and user information. R2016b is the current release of MATLAB and is available at the Mathworks license center.

Licensing and Restrictions

  • MATLAB is a campus wide site license and can be used by U of O employees (faculty, academic staff, and GTFs) performing software administration, teaching and noncommercial, academic research.
  • Faculty, GTFs, and academic staff may install and use the programs on their personally owned computers, on campus, off campus and via remote access.
  • Enrolled students may also use MATLAB programs in on-campus facilities and are now authorized to download the software on their personal devices.
